About

Hi! 👋

I’m Matt Ruma, a basketball coach who believes the game is ultimately about far more than basketball.

I love competition, preparation, and doing things the right way, but I’ve learned that the scoreboard doesn’t really matter in the end. What matters most is discipling kids, shaping hearts, and helping young people grow into who God has called them to be ✝️❤️.

I don’t pretend to have all the answers.

I may not always be able to tell other coaches exactly what the right thing to do is, but I can faithfully share the mistakes I’ve made, the lessons God has taught me through them, and how those lessons have changed the way I lead 🛠️📖.

Coaching has humbled me, stretched me, and constantly reminded me that growth often comes through failure.

This blog is a place for honest reflection, stories from the gym, lessons from Scripture, and moments where faith and basketball collide. My hope is that through discipline, accountability, love, and service, the kids I coach leave not just better players, but better teammates, better leaders, and stronger disciples of Christ 🙌🏽🏀.

If basketball is the tool God uses, then I want to steward it well.
